Ann-Douglas Park and Butterfly Gardens

The Northeast Neighborhood Association and the City of Elgin are

pleased to announce the start of construction on the much

anticipated Ann Street-Douglas Avenue Park. The park will serve as a

focal point of natural beauty and tranquility in the heart of the

Spring-Douglas Historic District. This park was designed using

environmentally sensitive features including native plantings and

permeable pavers. It will also feature butterfly perennial gardens,

flowering trees, seating areas, a sculpture, decorative lighting and

open space – all enclosed by a decorative fence with natural stone

columns. Construction of the park will occur over the next few years,

starting this fall with the installation of decorative lighting, seating

areas and permeable pavers. We will also begin planting the butterfly

gardens and trees.

While most of the funding for the infrastructure – lighting,

irrigation and installation of the pavers – will be provided by the City

of Elgin, this is a neighborhood project. It will only be made a reality

through volunteer efforts and donated services and materials. We

have already secured donations from Land Shapers, Inc. for the park’s

design and permeable pavers and PAR Development for grading

services. Now we are asking the neighborhood to join in the fun. We

invite you to become part of this unique and beautiful addition to our

neighborhood by either purchasing plantings or volunteering your

time. Any and all assistance will help make our beautiful park a reality

and leave a lasting legacy in our neighborhood.
