We’ll be walking in the
last-third of the Parade supporting NENA and our
October Monster Mash Bash fundraiser.
The
Elgin Parade is on JULY 3rd,
Saturday starting at 10:00 am. We’re
seeking Adults, Kids, even pooches to dress in
costume or wear a silly hat to showcase Monster
Mash. (similar to last year).
NENA’s
parade entry will featured Doug Watkins vintage GTO,
and our parade walkers dressed in costume to promote
MONSTER MASH. We are also giving out over 6,700
silicon bracelets to the crowds of kids (very IN and
popular this year!). If you are not up for
costumes, perhaps your dog or kids are? We’d love
to have at least 10 walkers hand out goodies and
represent NENA to the 12,000+ spectators expected.
Our group is assigned
to staging block GROVE-C (Grove between
Lovell & Jefferson).
The Parade Route is
Douglas/Slade down to Douglas/Chicago this year.
We’ll be able to give a quick lift to those needing
a ride back to the neighborhood to enjoy the rest of
the parade. This year we expect the parade to be 90
minutes in length with a 15 minute walk of the
parade route. We hope you can join us! (Click to

Elgin Cycling
Classic 2009
The City of Elgin has been selected to host a stage
for the International Cycling Classic & Superweek
Pro Tour, held July 9-26, 2009. Cyclists from all
over the world come to compete in this 17-day event
series held in 12 center cities throughout Illinois
and Wisconsin.
The Sherman Health Elgin Cycling Classic will
bring back its famous "road race" on Sunday, July
12, with the course starting and ending in downtown,
making a 6-mile loop through the residential
neighborhood and commercial corridor of Rte 25
northeast of downtown.
In addition to the road race, the Sherman Health
Elgin Cycling Classic includes a festival of live
music, food and vendors near the start/finish line
at the Douglas Street Sports Bar & Grill.
Elgin's official cycling tradition began with the
Four Bridges Road Race, which the City hosted
2000-2002. The Elgin Cycling Classic was then
launched in 2005, and has brought in more than 300
local cyclists annually. This year is expected to
bring more than 700 Olympic-hopeful riders from all
over the world.
